From everything I've seen over the years, the PMP is the "gold standard" when it comes to project management and it helps a great deal when looking to get a position. Not having it provides the hiring authority another reason NOT to hire a person. I strongly recommend that people get their PMP if they intend to stay in the project management world. By the way, a person's learning should not stop with the PMP.
